Dreams for Desks: Turning Classrooms Into Places of Possibility

Dear Friends of Buendedi,

This past month has marked a new wave of momentum for Buendedi. From launching our first Dreams for Desks campaign to deepening our presence in Kinshasa, we’re moving with clarity, purpose, and a community-driven mission. Here’s a look at what we’ve been building together.

Dreams for Desks: Our First Campaign Has Officially Launched

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our very first Dreams for Desks Campaign, an initiative dedicated to transforming Congolese classrooms into spaces where students can learn, focus, and thrive.

During a recent visit and needs assessment, our field team, led by Priscilla Odia, identified one of the school’s most pressing challenges:

A severe shortage of desks.
Many students currently sit on the floor, share limited furniture, or lean against walls to complete their assignments. This makes it difficult to write, concentrate, and fully participate in class.

Here’s where the real work begins:

The school needs 100–150 new desks to meet current learning needs.
We’ve partnered with a local Congolese carpenter, signing a formal agreement to secure fair wages, sustainable materials, and consistent quality, all at just $45 per desk.
Each desk represents more than furniture. It is a stable place for a child to learn, dream, and grow.

By having the desks built locally, we’re uplifting education and strengthening the local economy. Our goal this month is clear: raise $5,000 to fund 100 desks for the students who need them most.

And thanks to our early supporters, we’ve already raised $350 toward this goal! This is what collective impact looks like, step by step, desk by desk, future by future.

Running for the Children: Pierre’s Marathon Nears the Final Stretch

Our Executive Director, Pierre Mbala, is entering the final weeks of training for the Phoenix Marathon on December 13th. His run is more than a race. It is s a commitment to the students of Congo who show resilience every day in pursuit of an education.

Each mile he runs symbolizes a student’s journey from limited resources to limitless potential. Every dollar donated during this campaign will be matched personally by Pierre, doubling its impact and helping us reach our desk goal even faster.
