Dreams in Motion: Desks Built, Miles Ran, Impact Growing

Dear Friends of Buendedi,

As we close out the year, we’re grateful to reflect on the meaningful progress made possible by your continued support. December has been a month of validation, momentum, and commitment, which is proof that when a community comes together, real change follows.

Dreams for Desks: Early Momentum, Real Progress

We’re excited to share that in its first month, the Dreams for Desks campaign has raised $400 toward our goal of building better classrooms in Kinshasa. While this is just the beginning, it’s a powerful signal that our community believes in this vision and the students it serves.

Even more importantly, we’ve moved from planning into execution.

To ensure accountability and quality, Pierre Mbala initiated quality control procedures for the desk construction, which were executed on the ground by Priscilla Odia, Buendedi’s on-the-ground coordinator. Together, the team sampled the first completed desk from our local carpenter to evaluate durability, safety, and usability.

We’re proud to report: the desk passed all standards.

This milestone confirms that our partnership model works. We can support fair wages, local craftsmanship, and quality materials, all while staying true to our commitment to integrity, sustainability, and community-led impact.

From Miles to Meaning: Pierre Completes the Marathon

This month also marked a powerful personal and organizational milestone.

Pierre Mbala officially completed his marathon, a journey dedicated to the resilience of the students Buendedi serves. Every mile represented perseverance, discipline, and belief in a better future. These are values mirrored daily by children who continue showing up to learn, despite limited resources.

In honor of this achievement and to accelerate the Dreams for Desks campaign, Pierre has committed to matching donations up to $1,500 for the remainder of the campaign.

This means every dollar given now goes even further, which will directly translate your generosity into desks, dignity, and opportunity for students in Kinshasa.

Looking Ahead: Building With Confidence

With funds raised, desks tested, and a matching commitment in place, Buendedi enters the new year with clarity and confidence. We now know exactly what we’re working toward, and how to get there.

Each contribution moves us closer to fully furnishing classrooms and placing students behind desks of their own. Together, step by step, we are turning intention into infrastructure.
